It had been a rough day. After spending most of it trudging through the rain to get back home from the village, knowing that something had gone wrong in Asgard, and then returning to find their worst fears realized, the Doctor was rattled more than one would expect him to be.
When night finally fell and there was nothing left that could be done that day, he'd retreated back to the house, bathed and holed himself up in the room he shared with Charley. He figured she'd be in when she wanted to join him, and he wouldn't push the issue. The day had to have been upsetting for her as well, and however she wanted to deal with it was her prerogative. For his part, he was going to sit in his room and stare at the photo in his hands for a while to clear his head.
Charley did, of course, have to take a hot bath after getting back from a miserable hike like that, especially when paired with the situation and finding out what had happened and everything. She also had a long cup of tea, while giving the Doctor time to bathe (and getting a little food in as well). And basically just spent a good chunk of time processing her mixed feelings of feeling awful they escaped the bad things that everyone left behind had to go through, and feeling grateful as heck that they escaped the bad things that everyone left behind had to go through.
In the end, though, by the time she drained the tub and pulled her pyjamas on, she decided that while she felt awful for everyone who'd stayed in the city, she was mostly just grateful she and the Doctor had managed to escape anything bad happening to them this time around. And with that moral quandary out of the way, it was time to look to the Doctor's state of mind.
She knocked lightly on the door before coming in, closing the door behind her softly and sitting on the edge of the bed. "How are you doing?"
The Doctor's head lifted at the sound of the knock, and he smiled as Charley slipped in. It was good that, no matter how bad it was in the city, she was there with him again.
He pressed a kiss to her cheek when she settled on the bed next to him, shrugging at her question. "I'm...I'm alright, I think. Feeling a little leery about a large group of us leaving the city again. It always seems to be when these things happen. I feel like I should have been here."
"More to the point," he said, settling the photo on his lap and slipping an arm around her shoulders, "How are you?"
Charley still gets a little taken aback, sometimes, at the casual, easy affection that the Doctor shows her here. Not that she doesn't show it right back, and gladly, but it's... odd. Good odd, but still odd.
She leans into him with a faint fond smile, resting her head on his shoulder. "I'm all right. Settled on grateful that I wasn't here, to be perfectly honest." She reaches out to pick up the photo carefully. "What's this, then?"
The Doctor would admit at being a little surprised himself. Then he reminds himself that it's because this place holds his one last chance to be with her, and there's no time for messing about with awkwardness and distance. Carpe Diem. Seize the day.
"Hm?" He peers down at the photograph, the corner of his mouth twitching as he looks over the smiling faces looking back at them. "Ah, well...I don't know how the gods managed it, as I distinctly remember there weren't any pictures taken that day, but after I left notes for them at the tree Merlin set up to remember loved ones, I found this lying on my pillow."
He points at each face in turn, and try as he might, he can't keep his voice from cracking just a tiny bit. "That is one of my best friends, Lucie. That is my granddaughter, Susan and that...that is my great-grandson, Alex. We had Christmas in the TARDIS together."
Family - that's one thing they've never really discussed - of course, he knows more about hers than she does about his. She brings the photo closer, examining it. They don't physically resemble him overly much, which is rather to be expected, she thinks, but something in the eyes...
"I can see the resemblance," she says after a moment. "I didn't know you had a granddaughter."

The only difference between the two is that Loki's won't lift your mood; it'll give you loud and embarrassing flatulence for the next three hours.

Miss Brown--oh, for goodness sake... [There's no video, but he makes a frustrated noise.]
Ah, please forgive me, I seem to be having some difficulty with names. But nonetheless... we need to have a talk, my dear. In person, if possible. Where would you like to meet?
Oh, I... hmm. I suppose wherever is most convenient for you. I could come to the shop if it's quiet, or you could come here. I was about to make a sandwich for myself, you're welcome to one as well.
I wouldn't mind going to the house, as long as you're fairly certain we won't be interrupted. And I wouldn't say 'no' to that offer; thank you, Perpugilliam.
[She'll be able to hear a rather disgusted mutter as Six shuts down his bracelet and heads over there. This whole thing is quite ridiculous; he's stuck calling Charley by Peri's name, and what exactly does that say about how he feels toward Peri? Nothing good, probably.]
Day 308
Are y'there?
Man, this thing has been like stupid right? I think I accidentally touched that ice too much, my fingers still feel frozen.
We should go out for ramen, yeah? I'm gonna get Gaara to come too.
I'm coming over there now. I can see your house.
Er, yeah I'm here. You comin' down?

...Are your fingers all right?

Er--
Wait, that was for Sasuke.
Have you got Sasuke's bracelet thing?

This-- everything's gone weird right? I sent this to Sasuke. Dunno why you've got it.
